Coed league matches of the week

The Flying Squirrels went 4-2 in six games in the Coed Fours League on Wednesday, winning all three games against Stu's Crew and one of three against BUCA.

Mark Menadier led the Squirrels with 15 kills and 5 aces against BUCA and 21 kills and 6 aces against Stu's Crew. His final 2 kills of the night both came in similar fashion, as he hit the ball over on 2 after digs by Melissa Eckoff, giving the Squirrels a 26-24 win in the final game against Stu's Crew. The Squirrels also beat Stu's Crew 25-21 and 25-22.

Scott Shaw had 15 kills and Tom Koehler had 2 kills and 2 aces against Stu's Crew.

Fred Bauer led Stu's Crew with 11 kills and also had 4 aces, while Stu contributed 10 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 aces. Al Zudick had 6 kills and 6 aces, and Judy Larrick had 3 kills.

Phil Oney led BUCA with 15 kills, 3 blocks and 4 aces as they beat the Squirrels 25-8 24-26, 27-25. Jon Raser had 10 kills and 5 blocks, including two that were one-handed, and Tony Weshovsky had 8 kills.

BUCA trailed 12-17 in the third game, but battled back to tie the score at 20-20 on an ace by Jon. They went ahead 26-25 on an error by the Squirrels, then Phil finished the game and the night for BUCA with a block. BUCA had already won three games from Jambalaya before playing the Squirrels.

Scott had 13 kills and 2 blocks for the Squirrels against BUCA. Mark provided the key hits at the end of the Squirrels' Game 2 win, with a kill to tie the game at 24-24, then 2 straight kills for the winning points.

Team Beer wins 2 of 3 from Kaboom!

Team Beer won 2 of 3 games, 25-16, 25-20, 6-15, against Kaboom! in one of the feature matches of the opening night in the Men's Sixes League for the spring season.

Bob Curran led Team Beer with 7 kills, while Dan Botzan contributed 6 kills and 2 blocks and Brian Korenstein had 4 kills and 2 blocks. Mike Kucza contributed to the balanced attack with 5 kills, Taras Borysyuk had 4 kills, and Maribel Viray had 3 kills.

Matt Blauner led Kaboom! with 10 kills while Mike Thunell, Omar Mineya, and Paul Caper each had 5. Omar also had 2 aces.

Team Beer also won three games against WML on the opening night, while Kaboom! won all three in its exciting! match with Kapow!
